Finding the right travel destination can be kind of tricky a lot of the time. After all, there are just so many places to choose from and so many factors that influence your decision-making process. What kind of vacation are you looking for? Do you want to spend the whole time relaxing on the beach? Do you want to get involved with local culture? Or do you want to get off the grid entirely? The problem with this ridiculously large amount of choice is that it leads to a lot of people sticking with the same few travel destinations year after year. And sure, there’s nothing wrong with finding a place that you really like and then sticking with it. However, that kind of attitude can often lead to your vacations getting kind of stale and boring, which kind of defeats their entire purpose. So what can you do? How can you get back the fun and excitement of a vacation? Well, the best thing to do is to try and find somewhere new. Of course, if you’ve visited a lot of different places, you might feel like you’re running out of new and exciting destinations. However, that’s just not the case. With that in mind, here are some amazing, but criminally underrated travel destinations that you might want to try next time you’re planning a vacation.
Malaysia

Despite the incredibly bustling tourist trade in Asia, this country located in the south-east section of the continent often goes ignored. And that’s a real shame because if you’re looking for the kind of destination that is a truly amazing melting pot of different cultures then Malaysia is one of the very best places you can visit. Cities like Melaka are hubs of such vibrant life and culture that it’s easy to find yourself getting sucked in. In fact, the prices for a house for rent in Melaka are so competitive that it’s no surprise a lot of people end up relocating there more permanently. But even if you’re just visiting for a while, it’s all too easy to fall in love with this country and its people.
Bulgaria
Europe is full of amazing countries, but most people tend to only think about the really famous ones. France, Spain, and Italy are all filled with amazing travel destinations but they’re far from the only options on the continent. If you’re looking for just as much of a beautiful European trip on a significantly smaller budget then Bulgaria might be the place to look. The capital, Sofia, is filled with breathtakingly beautiful architecture and the country has some truly fascinating history. Combine that with some amazing landscapes and this is a country that really can stand up to Europe’s finest.
Austria

Speaking of Europe’s finest, if you’re looking for a place where life truly is good, then Austria’s capital, Vienna, might be the place for you. Vienna is consistently touted as having the highest quality of life in all of Europe with amazing public services and transport, high wages, and competitive house prices. Of course, even if you’re just visiting and don’t plan on sticking around, the city, and the country as a whole is filled with such rich and vibrant history that it’s nearly impossible not to fall head over heels in love with the place. In fact, you might find yourself visiting only to decide that this is the kind of place you could see yourself spending your days.
Bolivia
If you’re looking to get a glimpse of a completely different way of life than you might be used to then Bolivia is the place for you. The country is incredibly diverse and filled with different indigenous people with ancient and fascinating cultures. Not only that you’re going to be met with some truly incredibly natural sights as well with some of the most breathtaking mountains that you will ever see. There are plenty of people who flock to this country just to get a look at the mountain ranges and experience them for themselves. Not only that but wildlife spotting could be easier with all of the different indigenous species running around all over the place. And all of that on a surprisingly low budget means that this really is one of the best places for any traveller who’s in the know.
Cambodia
Want a glimpse of the world before it was full of people and technology? Then why not take a trip to Cambodia? Many of this country’s islands are still untouched and free of tourists and hotels. Sure, this means that some of the luxuries that you might be used to aren’t going to be available but when you’re enjoying your own private corner of paradise, that trade-off can be more than worth it. Of course, this corner of paradise has been getting a lot more traction over the last few years so now might be the perfect time to visit before too many people become truly aware of it. Within a few years, the islands are going to become more crowded and it’s going to start feeling a lot more like a typical holiday destination. But, until then, enjoy paradise while you can.
Finland
When it comes to many of Europe’s beautifully snowy country, most people tend to think of places like Sweden, which is a real shame because its next door neighbour, Finland, has just as much, if not more to offer. Lapland is one of those places that you really do have to visit at least once just to experience it for yourself. There’s a reason so many stories place it as the home of Santa Claus, Lapland, and Finland as a whole for that matter really does feel like something straight out of a fairy tale. Finland is a pretty small country, but don’t let that fool you, there are so many things to do and see that you could keep going back time and time again, year after year, and never run out of amazing experiences that you’re going to remember for the rest of your life.
Ireland
Ireland is one of those places that is the victim of a lot of bad press. People make fun of the Irish a lot and a lot of people have an image of Ireland as a place that’s always grey and cold and wet. And sure, Ireland doesn’t have the greatest weather in the world all year round, but that doesn’t mean that it’s not an amazing place that’s well worth visiting at least once. First of all, Ireland is home to some truly incredible natural beauty. Being able to look out across miles upon miles of landscape is something that you really can’t appreciate until you’re doing it yourself. Not only that but the Irish are legendarily friendly and accommodating people who will likely be more than happy to take you under their wing. It’s the kind of hospitality that you just don’t experience in a lot of places and it really makes Ireland special.
Of course, there’s nothing to say that you have to stop going to a place that you’re familiar with if you’re still enjoying yourself. After all, it’s your vacation and no one should be able to tell you how to spend it. However, if you’re feeling bored then trying somewhere new and a little unusual might well be the perfect option. After all, fortune favours the bold and if you’re really lucky you might end up stumbling across your new favourite place in the world.
